Hair Removal BOOK NOW SUGARING vs HARD WAX What's the difference? Waxing and sugaring both involve removing hair from the root thus having longer lasting effects than shaving, but truth be told they're two very different techniques. Hard wax is applied in the same direction as your natural hair growth and removed in the opposite direction of your follicle's growth pattern. With sugaring, the paste is molded onto the skin in the opposite direction of hair growth, then removed in the natural direction of your follicle's growth pattern. Wax also tends to be hotter than sugaring, which is normally room temperature. Because of this, the results can differ greatly. The level of pain depends on the pain threshold of the individual. Neither technique is completely painless, however some tolerate one better than the other. Results really depend on each individual and their specific skin type. WHAT IS SUGARING Sugaring hair removal uses an all natural gel-like paste to remove hair which is great for those who have allergies to certain ingredients or just want only natural substances on their body. The sugar paste can be applied to any area and is removed in the direction of the hair growth. The paste itself adheres solely to the dead skin skin cells, rather than live skin cells (unlike waxing, which breaks the hair at the surface). Instead, sugaring removes the hair from the root. This makes it preferable for more sensitive, hard-to-reach areas like the bikini line and underarms. It is also able to remove shorter hair than waxing can so you don't need to wait as long in between sessions. WHAT TO EXPECT The sugar technician will start by cleaning the area to remove any excess oils and apply a powder to make the hair stand out. The next step is to slowly apply the sugar paste directly to the skin - against the grain of hair growth - then lightly tug in the same direction of hair growth to remove it. Because of the nature of sugar wax, it can be reapplied to the same area several times to get more precise removal. Unlike wax, sugaring doesn’t stick to the skin so the cleanup is fairly simple. Any residue will come off the skin with water. WHAT IS HARD WAXING Hard wax works by literally hardening onto your skin in the natural direction of hair growth. Once it hardens, it is then removed in the opposite direction by hand - so there is no need to use waxing strips. This makes the process more environmentally friendly and much less painful. Hard wax is best suited for use on areas with thicker hair and less sensitive skin. For example, some people prefer using hard wax on their legs as it tends to be a faster process compared to sugaring which might require going over an area more than once. If your skin isn't particularly sensitive in general then opting for hard wax may be the best choice for you. WHAT TO EXPECT The technician will begin by cleaning the area and follow with a pre-wax treatment, typically an oil or powder, to protect the skin from irritation. Next up, the technician will spread a thin layer of the wax in the same direction as hair growth. To remove, they’ll either use paper or cloth (for soft waxes) or remove the entire strip of wax itself (for hard waxes), going against the grain of hair growth. Because of this method, hair is more prone to breakage. Since wax adheres to skin, it’s only applied to a single area once or twice to avoid further irritation. Once all the hair is removed, they’ll soothe the area with a serum or lotion. This also prevents ingrown hairs. If there’s any leftover wax residue, they’ll remove it with an oil-based cleanser. PRECARE & AFTERCARE PRECARE Everyone’s experience will be different, but it may be uncomfortable if it’s your first hair removal. Whether you choose to sugar or wax, you can take some steps to minimize pain before. We recommend exfoliating the night before and taking ibuprofen to help with any discomfort. AFTERCARE As with any removal treatment, there will be some irritation after. “Slight temporary redness that will disappear in a few hours however, there should be no major irritation as sugaring is all-natural and particularly great for sensitive skin,” says Huang. From staying out of the sun to wearing looser clothing for the first few days, aftercare is key to making sure you can enjoy your smooth skin without the stress. What should you keep in mind immediately after your appointment? For 24 hours after sugaring or waxing, keep in mind that your skin might be more sensitive. Avoid direct contact with the sun, such as tanning. And avoid hot baths, further exfoliation, and working out. All of these could aggravate the skin. What can you do to minimize ingrown hairs and other bumps? You can return to exfoliating about 48 hours after your appointment. Aim to exfoliate two to three times a week to help prevent ingrown hairs between appointments. Some people prefer sugaring because the method cleans out hair follicles, removing dead skin cells and dirt which can lead to ingrown hairs. How long will the results last? On average, results from both sugaring and waxing last around the same time. It ultimately comes down to how fast your hair grows and how dark your hair is, but usually each session will last around 3 to 4 weeks. If you keep up a regular hair removal schedule, the removal process should become less painful and easier overtime. Some people even report less hair growth overtime, though this isn’t true for everyone. CONTRAINDICATIONS The bottom line: Both sugaring and waxing can be great forms of hair removal if you're looking for lasting results. There's no clear “winner” between the two because it's ultimately down to preference, however there are some common contraindications you should know about prior to booking an appointment: Areas of skin that are sunburned, irritated, or have open wounds are not suitable for any form of hair removal. Must wait a minimum of seven (7) days after getting a light chemical peel or Microdermabrasion before hair removal service can be preformed. Must wait a minimum of one (1) year after laser skin resurfacing before hair removal service can be preformed. Cannot receive hair removal service if a peel has been administered by a physician within the past two (2) years. Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening BOOK NOW WHAT IS PLASMA FIBROBLAST SKIN TIGHTENING Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening is a non-invasive, cosmetic treatment that uses plasma, an ionized gas, to non-surgically tighten skin. Fibroblast can performed anywhere on the body and is used for the correction of wrinkles and fine lines, stretch marks, resurfacing the skin, acne scar and surgical scar correction, and more. You will see immediate results (during treatment) which will continue to improve over the next 12 weeks. Usually only one treatment is required to achieve desired results, although this does vary from patient to patient. Once desired results are achieved, treatment is permanent but you may desire future touch ups. Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening actually repairs the skin, making it a longer-term solution than Botox or fillers that will fade away in a few months. It's a great alternative to cosmetic surgery because it is virtually painless and does much less harm to the body resulting in very limited down time. Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening is a safe and effective procedure. WHAT TO EXPECT A plasma pen is used to generate a plasma charge which is delivered to the skin when the applicator tip is approximately 0.5 mm away from the skin (there is no direct contact with the skin). This creates a very minor, controlled burn which you will see as a small dot (plasma spot). Each plasma spot contracts the skin around it creating an instant and significant tightening of the targeted area. This technique causes the elimination of moles, skin tags and pigmentation (and more). Moreover, the dissipation of heat throughout the skin in the treated area causes the body to send fibroblasts to the area being treated and lay down collagen and elastin fibers thereby promoting plumping and tightening of the skin. No anesthesia is needed but you will be provided a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. The procedure takes 45 minutes to several hours depending on the area being treated. Expect to feel some heat and minor irritation. PRECARE Prior to obtaining a Plasma Fibroblast Skin Treatment, we highly recommend following this pre-treatment form in order to avoid any possible complications or unwanted side effects: Be in Good Health. If you suffer from Herpes or Cold Sores, start your viral medications at least 1 week prior to appointment. 24 hours prior to treatment: No Alcohol. No Aspirin. No Coffee the morning of your appointment. AFTERCARE What to expect after your Fibroblast Skin Tightening procedure and aftercare: Immediately after treatment you will have a mild sensation similar to a sunburn that should dissipate within the day. As a natural healing response, it is normal for the treated area to become swollen. This could last anywhere from 2-8 days. An anti-inflammatory may be used such as Ibuprofen if really needed, however, inflammation is necessary to the healing and tightening process so only use if necessary. Sometimes there can be minimal leaking of lymph fluid the first day or two. If this happens just blot the area with a tissue. There will be a light to deep crust that forms over the skin of the treated area. DO NOT pick the treated area, this WILL cause scarring, infection, and/or pigmentation of that area. It is important to keep the area clean and sanitary. DO NOT touch the treated area. You will use a mild cleanser twice a day with clean hands. No makeup or anything to cover the area until the crust has fallen off as this could lead to infection. There should be NOTHING applied to the treatment area except the aftercare given. No extra creams or ointments other than what’s given. Until the crusts fall off all saunas, tanning beds, sun exposure, swimming, and exercising should be avoided. Getting the crusts wet will cause them to come off prematurely, too much heat can make you hyper pigment, and sweat will sweat out toxins on that healing area. After two weeks you may spray tan. PRECARE To help better prepare yourself for your Lip Blushing appointment, please adhere to the following: Refrain from any activities that may cause irritation of the skin before your appointment Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours prior to appointment time No coffee or caffeinated beverages on the day of your appointment No tanning, microdermabrasions, dermaplanning, laser treatments, or chemical peels 7-10 days before service Do not take any blood thinning medications including but not limited to: Aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Niacin, Fish Oil, Vitamin E, and Ibuprofen. No lip filler one (1) month prior to Lip Blushing service If you have experienced a cold sore in or around the mouth, you MUST take Valtrex at least three (3) days prior and three (3) days after receiving this treatment. Failure to follow these instructions can risk an outbreak that can affect the healing process. AFTERCARE The purpose of the aftercare is to ensure the pigment bonds as best as possible. This will prevent future unnecessary touch-ups, and help the brows last longer. Do not get the brows submerged in water for 10days (cleaning them gently with damp cotton is ok) No exercise for 10 days Apply the healing balm provided 1x per day in the morning Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10days No Botox/facials for 2-3 weeks after your treatment Avoid hot steam/saunas for 10 days after your treatment Contraindicatins CONTRAINDICATIONS What to expect immediately following your Lip Blush procedure: You will require a few days of downtime following your initial appointment so be sure to plan accordingly around your schedule. The initial color intensity and swelling should regress within 3-4 days. Your lips may feel like they have a slight burn and experience minimal scabbing and/or flaking. It's very important to keep the lips heavily hydrated during this time. Before applying the chemical solution, the esthetician will cover your eyes and hair. They will then apply the acid solution to your skin using a tool like a brush or sponge. You might feel a slight stinging sensation while the solution is on your skin but nothing unmanageable.
